Disclaimer

A few honest words about what the Lab is — and what it is not — so you can meet it with the right expectations.

Last updated · 12 July 2026
In one breath

The Lab is an educational and devotional companion to Vālmīki's Rāmāyaṇa. It is offered with care and reverence, but it is not a religious authority, and it is not professional advice of any kind.

01

An educational & devotional companion

The Lab exists to help curious readers, families, and seekers explore the Rāmāyaṇa. It is a study aid and a devotional aid — not a substitute for a teacher (गुरु), a temple, or the guidance of your own tradition. Where a teaching matters to you, we warmly encourage you to seek learned guidance.

02

Not religious or professional advice

Nothing in the Lab is intended as authoritative religious ruling, nor as legal, medical, psychological, financial, or other professional advice. The reflections, "dharma guidance," and practices offered are for contemplation and inspiration only. For decisions in your life, please consult a qualified professional or trusted advisor.

03

On the Sanskrit & translations

We work carefully from the Vālmīki tradition and present the verses in Devanagari, IAST transliteration, and English. Even so, Sanskrit is deeply layered, and translation is always interpretation. Different scholars and traditions — Vālmīki, Tulsīdās, and many regional retellings — render the same verse in different ways.

Our English renderings and commentary reflect our reading and are meant to open the text, not to close it. They should not be treated as the single definitive translation.

04

Accuracy & completeness

We strive for accuracy, but the Lab is an evolving work and may contain errors, omissions, or simplifications — particularly in the simplified retellings for newcomers, which necessarily condense the epic. The content is provided "as is", without any warranty that it is complete, current, or free of mistakes. If you spot something amiss, we would be grateful to hear from you.

05

Audio & assisted narration

Read-aloud narration uses your browser's built-in text-to-speech and may mispronounce Sanskrit names and terms. Where recorded chant audio is offered, it is provided for learning and devotion; for precise pronunciation and correct recitation, please learn from a qualified teacher.

06

External links & limitation

The Lab may link to other websites for further reading. We do not control and are not responsible for their content or practices; following them is at your own discretion.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the makers of the Lab are not liable for any loss or harm arising from reliance on its content. Your use of the Lab is at your own discretion and risk. This disclaimer forms part of, and should be read together with, our Terms of Use.
